December 2009 What an incredible month this has been! We traveled to Myrtle Beach to see Debbie Reynolds at the Palace Theatre. While in town, we stopped by the library and checked through some microfilm, city directories, and other materials. We added a great deal of information to the site, including some new images of Myrtle Beach movie theaters. Since we were so close to Conway, we revisited there and enjoyed their new library. We found some wonderful new material, especially the newspaper edition announcing the opening of the Carolina Theater. We also discovered new information on the theaters of Loris and Dillon. Our next trip was to Clemson to attend the graduation of our grand-nephew, John Coles. We are so very proud of him. While there, we did snap a photograph of the Clemson Theater, which is now a retail clothing store. On this trip, we revisited Laurens and talked with one of the current owners. We have some old photographs of the Capitol Theater in Laurens that we had not seen before this trip. We thank Mr. and Mrs. Campbell for allowing us to put these photographs on our site for you to enjoy. |
THANK YOU This month our very special "Thank You" goes to Mr. Robert W. Ratterree, Sr., of Rock Hill. He provided many photographs of the old movie theaters of Rock Hill as well as an excellent article recalling the times he and his friends attended the movies.
